Bajaj Auto (Bajaj Auto) is working on a single-seater, low-power and affordable electric scooter for the Indian market. The company is preparing the scooter for electric mobility service startup Yulu (Yulu). The special thing is that its price will be less than Rs 35,000. In November 2019 last year, Bajaj Auto bought shares worth $ 8 million (about Rs 60 crore) in a bike-sharing startup. Bajaj has invested in any startup for the first time.

Now, Bajaj wants to launch an electric scooter for Yulu in the Rs 30,000–35,000 price range by next year. Yulu co-founder and CEO Amit Gupta said, "We are spending around $ 600 per bike. We are building them in China and assembling them in India. With the coming of Bajaj Auto, we are in the middle In the long run, we can bring the price up to $ 500. So we can bring the price of scooter above Rs 40,000 to Rs 30,000-35,000. "

Yulu's scooter is being given a 48V motor and will have a top speed of 25 km / h. After full charging, this scooter will be able to cover a distance of 60 km. The rider does not need a driving license to drive the Yulu bike, and the company charges a fee of Rs 10 on an hourly basis for driving the bike.

However, Gupta said that he wanted the e-scooter developed by Bajaj to look more attractive and modern than the existing Yulu bike. However he also said that the scooter will not be easy to operate and expensive to maintain. Yulu expects to have around 1 lakh electric two-wheelers in its inventory by the end of this year, which will cost around $ 60 million (Rs 400 crore). The startup currently owns just 4,000 electric vehicles. The company initially aims to sell in only four to five cities for at least a year.

On the other hand, Bajaj Auto launched its first full electric scooter, Chetak Electric (Chetak Electric), named after the company's iconic ICE scooter, which was originally launched in the 1970s. Bajaj Auto has priced Chetak Electric at an initial price of Rs 1 lakh for the urban trim, and is priced at Rs 1.15 lakh for the premium variants, (both prices, ex-showroom).
